As part of the ‘Nae Games Weekend’, a performance of highland dancing will take place at St Margaret’s on Saturday afternoon, giving visitors to Braemar the authentic Highland Games experience. There will be an explanation of highland dancing and expert judges, Vivienne Milne and Alison Gordon will explain how the dancers are judged during competition.

Vivienne Milne (McIntosh) originally hails from the Cabrach but now lives near Huntly – she has been teaching for over 25 years and assisting her mum at the Alison Gordon School of Dance. They teach together in Dufftown and Aberlour.

Vivienne has danced internationally including the first ever Highland Games in Moscow, International Festival in Beijing China, Disneyland Paris, Germany as well as travelling to dance with Huntly and District Pipe Band to France, Bavaria, and Belgium 3 times. She organised the first ever Alison Gordon overseas trip in 2018 to Disneyland Paris and danced on the Disney stage with her Pupils.

Vivienne founded her own school in September 2020 for the Braemar Royal Highland Society. The pupils worked on Zoom from September through to May due to covid and are now in the Duke of Rothesay Centre weekly on a Thursday where they work hard and have recently done exams.

Alison Gordon (Milne) has been teaching for 50 years, has been a RSOBHD adjudicator for 44 years and UKA examiner for 20 years.

She provided dancers for the annual Display at Aberlour House Junior Highland Games now at Gordonstoun and organised the dancing display for first ever Highland Games in Moscow. Alison also co-ordinated the Walkers Shortbread League. She regularly organises the dancing competitions at Dufftown, Tomintoul, Gordon Castle & Aberlour Games. The Alison Gordon School of Dance is the main sponsor of the weekly Ceilidhs in Dufftown during summers months.
