April 2024: Here Comes the Sun!

Well, what a great start we’ve had to the new season. We may have been quiet over winter but there’s always a lot going on in the background - in particular efforts to improve conditions at St Margaret’s for our audiences and regular visitors. So bear with us as we do our best to restore a magnificent building but one which is unfortunately still on the “at risk” register. On a positive note, things  got under way at the start of March with two concerts in a row. First there was the ever-popular Rebecca Hill and Charlie Stewart followed by a much rowdier affair in the hands of Blazin’ Fiddles in this their 25th year. Dallahan (pictured) are also celebrating a landmark - their tenth birthday - and a big crowd enjoyed their performance. Indeed Jack Badcock and the Dallahan boys enjoyed  themselves so much they even continued the entertainment with a session in Farquharson’s after the concert!

As we go into April there’s a lot more to look forward to. We welcome the pupils of Big Noise Torry on Wednesday the 10th. They’re a very special orchestra. They’ll be spending much of the day in Braemar so please do come along to their lunchtime concert from 1-2. All welcome - and the youngsters would love your support. Then we have an old friend returning on the 19th - Paul Anderson will be here with his show “The Beauty of Cromar Before Me” plus special guests. Then the month ends with a broadcasting legend. “Whispering” Bob Harris of “Old Grey Whistle Test” and BBC Radio 2 fame will be looking at Beatles songs with Colin Hall, the former custodian of John Lennon’s childhood home in Liverpool. For those of a certain age this is not to be missed! “A Day in the Life”? It’s rarely dull at St Margaret’s!
