May 2022: Verlon Thompson and Friends

The pace seems relentless these days as events keep on coming at St Margaret’s.  Following the traditional performers of March we changed style in April with renowned saxophonist Tommy Smith delivering a wonderful virtuoso solo performance displaying his remarkable talents and the acoustic characteristics of the building to the full.  Then came Legendary Braemar, a specially commissioned work inspired by tales of the local countryside.  It’s hoped to take this work on the tour now with performances further down Deeside and in Aberdeen.

Next we changed key completely when we welcomed Observer Restaurant Critic, Jay Rayner, who entertained a packed audience with his thoughts on what he would choose to eat if he were planning his Last Supper.

This past weekend we enjoyed old friends Fiona Kennedy, Nils Elders, Shona Donaldson and Paul Anderson with country singer Verlon Thompson from Oklahoma who had all been involved in a week-long songwriting workshop at nearby Kincardine Castle.

May draws to a close with a return to the jazz theme led by the Fergus McCreadie Trio, one of the most exciting young groups on the European jazz scene.

Not to be missed!
