February 2025: Iona - and a whole lot more!
CELTIC CONNECTIONS
We had an unusually busy January as we took St Margaret’s on the road to Celtic Connections in Glasgow. It’s now the biggest roots and traditional music festival in the world and was a great opportunity to showcase a brand new production created by the St Margaret’s team to a packed out Barony Hall.
Iona: In the Footsteps of Columba wove together original and traditional music from Aberdeenshire fiddle maestro Paul Anderson, with perceptive poetry penned by Francis Devine and striking imagery by artist John Lowrie Morrison – all vividly brought to life by director John Bett’s magical script. The musical line-up was completed by some of Scotland’s preeminent traditional musicians.
All in all it made for an unforgettable mixed-media experience, reimagining the timeless stories of one of Scotland’s most spiritual places.
2025 PROGRAMME LAUNCHED
There’s not long to wait for our own Spring programme to get cracking in earnest. In March, we welcome the formidable Orcadian fiddle troup FARA, followed by Laura Wilkie and Ian Carr in April and then jazz singer Marianne McGregor, The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc and Siobhan Miller in quick succession this May.
Throughout the rest of the year we’ll welcome some of Scotland’s top musical talent to the St Margaret’s stage, with performances from Blue Rose Code, Beth Malcolm, Matt Carmichael Quintet, Breabach, the ever-popular Caritas Choir and CarmenCo already pencilled in.
