Friday 18th May 2018  - Transatlantic Connections

Fiona Kennedy, singer, songwriter and producer will once again host the tremendously successful ‘Transatlantic Connections” for the third year running. Along with her friend Paul Anderson, "the finest fiddler of his generation” she will welcome guest singer-songwriter Jonatha Brooke from Massachusetts. For more than two decades Jonatha has created shining musical gems, brilliant combinations of poetic lyrics, complex harmonies and memorable melodies that have earned her legions of devoted fans and journalistic raves as a highly respected artist. All funds raised will go to the ongoing restoration and development of St. Margaret’s into an internationally renowned performance, arts and heritage center. Tickets on sale on Monday 9th April 2018.

Saturday 26th May 2018 - Lisa Milne

The renowned Aberdonian soprano described by the BBC as "one of RSAMD's best-known alumni".

Doors open at 7.00pm, concert starts at 7.30pm


JUNE

Friday 8th June 2018 - Jenny Sturgeon with Jonny Hardie & Charlie McKerron

Jenny plays in a trio with Jonny Hardie (Old Blind Dogs) and Charlie McKerron (Capercaillie ). Hailing from the north-east of Scotland, Jenny Sturgeon is a hugely talented singer-songwriter who has been winning fans wherever she goes. Her passion for music lies in her interest in the traditional folk song, combined with the enjoyment of creating fresh, new compositions. Inspired by folklore, historical events and observations of modern society, Jenny is also a biologist and her enthusiasm for nature creeps into all her work.

Doors open at 7.30pm, concert from 8 - 10pm

Friday 29th June 2018 - Tangueros Ensemble

A Scottish Duo of flute and guitar committed to performances that engage with audiences and constantly developing ways to present work in ways that communicate ideas clearly. A fusion of Traditional Tango, Classical and Jazz.

JULY

Wednesday 11th July 2018 - North Atlantic Fiddle Festival

The opening night of the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention, will see celebrated fiddler Jonny Hardie of Old Blind Dogs fame take the stage with Sharon Hassan, another weel-kent face in the North-East. Adam Sutherland, one of Scotland’s finest fiddlers and Scots Trad Music Awards Composer of the Year will perform with guitarist Marc Clement. Adam is fresh from the success of his latest CD Some Other Land.  The packed line-up will also include English fiddle and dance trio Francis | Bennett | Hartley, a Lithuanian Trio the the Kirdos Family - consisting of Elena M, Gaila and Arvydas.

There will also be a fiddle and guitar workshop on 11th, 3.30 - 4.30pm led by fiddler Adam Sutherland and guitarist Marc Clement. All ages welcome but under 16's should be accompanied by an adult.

Saturday 28th July 2018 - Meet the Artist: Jolomo

One of Scotland's most successful and best loved contemporary Artists John Lowrie Morrison OBE - JOLOMO will visit St. Margaret’s Braemar.  Come along and meet the artist at an informal gathering with drinks and nibbles. Jolomo has been a painter for over 50 years of Argyll and The Hebrides, lighthouses, coastscapes, croftscapes, the people and the light of the Scottish west coast.

AUGUST

Friday 3rd August 2018 - Poliot Russian Children's Choir

The "Poliot" Children's Choir was founded in April 1964 in the city of Zhukovsky, Moscow region. From the very beginning it started to make a name for itself and achieved honor and substantial success. The choir performed in different parts of the former Soviet Union since 1993 started to tour internationally. The repertoire of the choir displays a great variety and consists of classical and contemporary, sacred and secular music, folklore. "Poliot" partners with the best contemporary Russian composers, for example, Mikhail Bronner. The “Poliot” School of Choral Art is comprised today of 6 choirs for a total of 400 children aged from 5 to 18. The choir is led by Natalia Filatova (director, chief conductor) who is a "Poliot" graduate. The "Poliot" choir has acquired a reputation for high artistic quality and sincerity of performance, for pure and flying sound of children voices, for a rich and complicated repertoire. This is the choirs’ first visit to Scotland.

Saturday 18th August to Monday 3rd September 2018 - Anke Addy "The Living Cairngorms" Photography Exhibition

Anke Addy’s stunning new photographic exhibition ‘The Living Cairngorms’ is inspired by Nan Shepherd’s well known book ‘The Living Mountain’ and is set in what is now widely known as The Cairngorms National Park.The images included are of the landscape, the native plants, the birds and mammals, all of which are part of this internationally renowned mountain range. To complete the picture, rivers, lochs, snow, ice, weather, and man are also part of this wide-ranging show.The Barn is delighted to be working in partnership with St Margaret’s Braemar to bring this exhibition of new work to Deeside.

Friday 31st August 2018 - Steve Garrett  Lunchtime Guitar Concert

Steve will perform a lunchtime recital on the electric guitar. This is a free event but donations to the restoration of the church are welcome. Bring your own picnic and view the exhibition and listen to some atmospheric music in beautiful surroundings.

We welcome back Professor and Royal composer Paul Mealor with the University of Aberdeen Chamber Choir for this popular event following the Braemar Gathering.

Scotland’s young traditional musicians create and perform in the heart of the Cairngorms.

NOVEMBER

Sunday 18th November 2018 - WW1 Memorial Concert

Join us and celebrate the centenary of the World War One Armistice with Paul Mealor and the University of Aberdeen Chamber Choir, fresh from a performance at the Carnegie Hall in New York. This concert will commemorate the young men in the community lost, as well as celebrating our present armed forces.

DECEMBER

Saturday 8th December - 3 Harps at Christmas

Renowned Scottish harpist Ruth Wall, celebrated for her immaculate playing, performs on concert and lever harps, buzzing Renaissance harps, bray harp and Gaelic wire-strung harp. She will curate an exquisite and magical Christmas programme with some surprises included.
